Bid increment

The bid increment is the minimum step between the current bid and the next acceptable bid. It keeps the bidding orderly and stops very small raises from dragging a lot out. Increments usually grow with the price, for example €5 steps under €100 and €100 steps above €1,000. In a live sale the auctioneer may adjust them to keep the bidding moving.
